How to transform your thinking and Guard Your Heart

Posted on May 1, 2017 by breakfree in Categories: Faith

“As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.”
Proverbs 23: 7

“You’re really not that pretty.”
“You’re not a good leader.”
“You’re fat.”
“You don’t finish anything”

Quick, what do you believe? What thoughts do you allow to enter your heart on a daily basis? You hold the power to decide whether what is said; is true or not. So, what have you decided about yourself?

The millions of things you hear, see or experience, like a puzzle, make up the many pieces of your mind. Will you allow your thought life to be flooded with negative conversations, opinions, images, videos and news? Or will you nourish your thought life with the word of God? It says in Proverbs 23:7 “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Isn’t that crazy? You can actually think in your heart, and those thoughts will eventually create your reality. The Bible also says that out of the heart flows the issues of life. So from that scripture we can incur that many of the life struggles we face as Christians are coming from our own hearts — not the devil.

But fear not, you are not powerless. You are well able to overcome negative thinking. As believers of Christ and children of God, guarding our hearts is crucial to living a successful life. That is why we have to be very careful about what we allow our minds to entertain. We must carefully monitor our conversations, what we watch on television, the music we listen to and so on. Remember, you are the gatekeeper of your heart, not God. He has given you the authority to be vigilant, keep watch and make the right decisions concerning what you let into your life.

In some way or another, you will always act out what’s in your heart. Without knowing it, you can meditate on bad experiences and hinder yourself from progressing. For instance, if you were fired from a job, the best thing to do is to learn from that experience, self-check, cry, do whatever you need to do and move on! But if you meditate on losing the job, rehearse the details of how you were treated unfairly or whatever the case might be, it can stop you from getting a new one. You’ll be wondering why no one has called you back for an interview or why you just can’t seem to land a position, and not realize that maybe it’s because subconsciously you created a blueprint of loss in your heart. Negative images in your heart can only be replaced with positive ones by renew your mind to the word of God.

Just as Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

A Change Of Heart
Remember you have the power and responsibility to guard your heart. Be intentional about what you watch, the friends you have, and the music you listen to. Be alert when negativity tries to enter into your heart so that you can stop it. If you have allowed the wrong things to enter your heart in the past, then pray and ask God to up root them. Who can handle your heart better than Him? Just as Psalm 51:10 says, there comes a time when we have to pray and ask God to “Create in (us) a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within (us).” God wants you to be intentional about managing your thought life because whatever you shape in your mind you will eventually see in your life. Maybe you have heard this before…but it’s always good to be reminded.

Your Thoughts Become Your Words….
Your words become you actions….
Your actions become you habits….
And your habits determine your life….

  • Long story short. I’m gonna do my very best. 💆🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️
I was sitting at a restaurant with my computer and all of my other go-go gadgets and chargers plugged up trying to mind my business and handle business when I was kindly interrupted by a group of businessmen from Canada. Apparently the swarovski crystals on my computer case attracted them. Go figure?! 😂 We get to talking and somehow I find my way into a millionaire masterclass. Our conversation was as captivating as the Swarovski crystals, and in few words, they shared:
1. Keep focusing on making a difference, not on making money. 💵
2. You’ll have roadblocks (haters and jealousy mainly), but let your passion propel you above it. 🛫
3. Patience is a virtue. It doesn’t all come at once. ⏰
4. Never stop. That’s the key. 🔑
I may have to go back to that restaurant for the motivation and another cookie skillet. 👀🍪🔥🤣 #Foodie #BeUnstoppable
  • I’m very excited to be headed to the Word Network in a few weeks! I’m humbled to be in a room with such powerful women who love God and are expanding His Kingdom. I’m in expectation of what God will do. Be sure to tune in! The world may never be the same. 👀💕
  • There are so many identities that try to compete with our identity in Christ. Voices that tell us...
“You’re not smart enough.”
“You’re not strong enough.”
“You’re not good enough.”
These are all LIES! God made you on purpose for a purpose and in Him, you are enough for whatever it is that He has put on the inside of you to accomplish. The thing is if you don’t take the time to get to know God, you will never get to know you. The real you. And by default, you’ll create a life that’s good, but not His best. If you want to live your best life (and not just sing about it), you need to know God and have a relationship with Him.

Otherwise, you will always feel like something is missing in your life. And no matter how much you dress up or how much money or friends you have, when you get home - alone by yourself - there will always be that void that only Jesus can fill. Anyway, all of that to say that God loves you and desperately wants an authentic relationship with you.

If you want to jumpstart or reignite your one on one time with Him without all the fluff, this devotional is for you. Or if you are struggling with really really believing what God says about you, this is the devotional for you. Don’t let what you think you know prevent you from experiencing what He knows you need.
